I step outside the binary
the line constricts me
its stiffened sides
like a coffin with no shelter
for my head or feet
I am pinioned.
I step outside the binary
pushing my female life partner in her wheelchair
to the Kingdom Hall
to hear the Special Talk
looking too affectionate to be a sister or daughter
I worry them
and only return yearly.
I step outside the binary
reminiscing about polyamory
why, what happened, and how could it have worked
out
Finally to realize
presently I am
a nonpractising polyamorist.
I step outside the binary to write this
usually hidden in the shadows
of either or camp
I declare myself smack dab in the middle
And I won't take it back.
