Burton Clark Bush's work as a filmmaker is a direct extension of drawing that he did as a child and teen. He went to school to study character animation, and learned how to use paper to animate his drawings into motion. He also experimented using live action and found footage literally unearthed from his grandparents closet. Burton shot film on Walt Disney's multiplane camera which is what was used to photograph the classic Snow White and Bambi. Learning about the history of non-narrative film has opened a new avenue for his creative outlet. Burton says: 'I think that art can change the world thru the cinematic medium. I work with imagery that includes camp 'drag' as well as hyper masculine images. I am fascinated by the dichotomy of male and female archytypes in cinema and am in the process of animating a new film to address the subject in a new way to help the world. In my artwork I try to channel male and female sexuality and play with forms of drag, theatrical conception of glamour and femininity as well as hyper masculine 'gay male' imagery.'

Burton has a BFA in Film/Video from the California Institute of the Arts, Valencia, CA. His personal films include:

  • Spec Spot for Star 98.7 Radio
  • From Nancy to Rio
  • Memories Deep in Time
  • Introduction to Brazilian Gems
  • Pools of Solomon.....

His films were shown at the Cinema Texas International Film Festival, Austin, Inside-Out Toronto/Canada, Outfest Los Angeles GLBT Film Festival, Carte Blanche de Cal Arts 8eme Festival du Cinema differentes de Paris, Centre Cultural de la Clef, France and the Western Division Semi-Finalist Student Academy Awards.
